Fields of Mistria Beginner Guide: Your First Week

Start Fields of Mistria with a flexible first-week plan for settings, tools, crops, town requests, storage, fishing, the museum, and mine preparation.

Quick answer

Plant a manageable field, meet the town, check the Request Board, keep one copy of new finds, and prepare food and inventory space before longer trips.

Before you start

Set a comfortable day length

Open the in-game Accessibility settings and choose the Day Time Speed that gives you room to learn. A changed speed applies after sleeping. Controls can be rebound in the Controls menu, with two inputs available for many actions, so fix awkward movement, tool, map, journal, or interaction bindings before a long day.

Treat the first week as orientation

There is no need to optimize every tile. The useful early loop is simple: water a field you can maintain, explore one part of town, speak to people you meet, check the Request Board, and return with enough time to sort items. This builds several systems at once without spending the entire day on one activity.

Day 1: establish a small routine

Priority

Clear only the space needed for a compact first field. Plant and water the seeds the opening gives you, then learn the route between the farm and town. Keep tools on predictable toolbar slots so switching does not waste attention.

Bring

Leave a few inventory spaces open before exploring. The starting bag has ten slots, so a full tool bar can crowd out forage and quest items quickly.

Avoid

Do not clear the entire farm or spend all stamina before leaving it. Early resources become materials for crafting and town improvements, while a depleted stamina bar makes exploration harder.

Next

Meet villagers naturally along your route and identify the General Store, Request Board, museum area, Inn, Carpenter, Blacksmith, and the northern route toward The Narrows.

Days 2–3: connect farming to the town

Priority

Water crops first, then check the Request Board in southeast Mistria between the General Store and The Mill. Track accepted work in the Journal. A quest may complete through a Donation Box or by speaking with its named character, so read the objective before carrying materials around all day.

Optional

Fish, forage, and inspect dig spots as you explore. Keep the first copy of an unfamiliar find until you have checked whether it belongs in the museum or a current request.

Unlocks

Renown grows through museum donations, shipping, and quests. Town Rank rewards and repairs are a long-term progression track, not a reason to sell every new object immediately.

Days 4–7: choose one expansion goal

Farming goal

Add crops only when you can water them without consuming the whole morning. Re-growing crops can repay their higher seed cost over a season, while fast single-harvest crops are easier to fit around a late start. See Farming before buying a large second planting.

Collection goal

Organize one chest for museum candidates and one for ingredients or building materials. This reduces accidental sales and makes future request turn-ins easier.

Exploration goal

Prepare for The Mines rather than entering with a full bag and no food. The mines are tied to town progression and contain biome-specific ore, artifacts, forage, monsters, fish, and bugs.

Stamina and time plan

Use the morning for mandatory farm care and the middle of the day for one major trip. Turn back before a long return route becomes a race. The game warns at midnight and forces the day to end at 2 AM; treating midnight as the end of productive time leaves a recovery buffer.

Food is most useful when it extends a planned activity rather than repairing an overcommitted day. Pack it for mining, a large farm task, or a deliberate fishing session.

What to sell and what to keep

Keep first

  • One copy of a new fish, bug, crop, forage item, and artifact until its museum status is clear.
  • Ore, wood, stone, sap, sod, clay, peat, and other materials with obvious crafting or repair value.
  • Ingredients attached to an accepted quest or a recipe you intend to make.

Sell deliberately

Sell duplicates when you know the first copy is covered and the item is not reserved for a request or near-term craft. A high sale price is useful only if selling does not force you to reacquire a seasonal or location-limited item later.

Common mistakes and recoveries

The bag fills too early

Return to a chest, discard the least useful duplicate only if necessary, and plan a narrower route tomorrow. Bag upgrades add ten spaces at a time, but storage discipline remains useful after upgrading.

You accepted too many requests

Use the Journal to choose one objective that overlaps with today’s route. Archived quest data says active quests do not expire, so you can defer work instead of carrying every possible item.

You planted too much

Stop expanding, prioritize current crops, and use the extra time for town progression. A smaller maintained plot is better than a large plot that prevents every other activity.

You stayed out too late

Start the return trip earlier and consider a longer Day Time Speed. Avoid building a route that depends on using every minute before the forced 2 AM collapse.

Goals after the first week

Choose one primary project: improve crop income, push town repairs, expand museum donations, prepare for mine progression, or develop a relationship. The systems overlap, but one clear goal makes daily choices easier.

Common questions

Quick FAQ

Can I make the days longer in Fields of Mistria?

Yes. Day Time Speed is available in the in-game Accessibility settings, and a change takes effect after the player sleeps.

What should I keep during the first week?

Keep at least one copy of unfamiliar crops, fish, forage, artifacts, ore, and useful crafting materials until you know their museum, quest, recipe, or upgrade use.

Do accepted requests expire?

The locally archived quest reference says active quests do not expire, but seasonal access to required items can still make a quick completion more convenient.
