How to Play Fields of Mistria: First-Day Loop, Controls, and Progression

Understand the main loop

Each day connects four jobs: maintain the farm, visit the town, pursue one larger goal, and sort the results. You do not need to do every system every day. A sustainable loop is more useful than clearing the whole farm or trying to meet every villager before you understand the map.

Fields of Mistria is currently presented as a single-player game. The August 6, 2026 Steam feature snapshot does not list online or local multiplayer, so there is no verified play-with-friends mode to configure.

Configure the game first

Open Accessibility and Controls before committing to a long day. Day Time Speed can make the schedule more comfortable, and the locally archived behavior says a change takes effect after sleeping. Controls can be rebound, with two inputs available for many actions.

Put movement, interaction, tools, map, and Journal access on inputs you can use without thinking. Full controller support is listed on Steam, including DualShock and DualSense support.

Start each morning

Handle mandatory farm care

Water a field you can maintain and deal with any time-sensitive animal or crop tasks. Avoid expanding just because empty land is available. The time and stamina saved by a compact layout make room for town progression.

Read the day's information

Check mail, the Journal, calendar information, and the Request Board when your route reaches town. Requests may complete through a Donation Box or by talking to the named character, so read the objective before carrying materials all day.

Choose one main trip

Pick farming expansion, town errands, fishing, relationship visits, museum collection, or a mine run as the day's primary objective. Combine nearby errands, but do not make a route that requires perfect timing.

Progress the town

Museum donations, shipping, and quests build Renown. Town Rank rewards and repair projects unlock longer-term progress. In version 1.0, Town Renown reaches 100, the Mistril Town Rank event is available, and the Town Repair Questline can be completed.

Keep the first copy of unfamiliar crops, fish, bugs, artifacts, and other collection candidates until their role is clear. Selling every new find can turn a quick donation or request into another seasonal search.

Explore the mines

The mines are reached through town progression and sit at the north end of The Narrows. Bring food and empty inventory slots. Ladders can appear by breaking rocks or defeating monsters, while elevator checkpoints connect every fifth floor you first reach. Ordinary floors reset after returning to the ground floor.

Build relationships

Speak to villagers as your route naturally crosses theirs instead of spending the entire day chasing everyone. Gifts, birthdays, heart events, dates, and recurring gatherings add structure over time. Version 1.0 supports ten-heart proposal events, marriage, and an optional family path for eligible candidates.

End the day safely

The game warns at midnight and forces the day to end at 2 AM. Start the return journey early enough to unload, organize, and prepare tomorrow's toolbar. Steam Cloud is listed as supported, but it is still sensible not to force-close the game during transitions or save activity.
